My Xbox 360 has some kind of hardware failure so I am wondering if I can take it to Best Buy and have it fixed under the three year warranty. Does Best Buy repair Xbox 360′s?

My niece has wanted a 360 for the last year. She earned (or will earn) all A’s this year, so I figured it a great time for a new game system.
Are the new systems from Wal-Mart or Best Buy a second generation unit clear of the defeats? What about the refurbish ones from the game stores like GameStop?
Please no suggestions to buy other systems, she specifical wants the 360 for some of the exclusive 360 games.
I want to buy an XBOX 360 but I want to make sure I dont get one of the early models that were having all the problems. How can I tell if I buy one from Best Buy or some other store if they are old models or newer ones. Are the model numbers on the newer versions higher?
I had my first Red Ring of Death experience a few days ago and called Microsoft for help. It would take 2-3 weeks, but I accepted anyway. A couple days after, my mom tells me I can have it fixed at Best Buy. I already recieved the package for me to send the 360 to repair, but I changed my mind and wanted it fixed quickly. Has anybody gone through this before?

i am looking for a place that will repair an xbox 360 game that has a circular scratch, i do not have money to buy a machine to fix it myself.
i know play and trade will but the closest one is 100 miles from me.
does gamestop?, or best buy?
