Xbox 360 IP connection problems?

I recently purchased a switch, so i could run my home network more efficiantly.

The set up is: Cable modem right into switch, then PC 1, PC 2, then xbox 360.

Internet works perfectly fine on the two pc’s but the xbox wont connect, and keeps coming up with failed ip tests.

Was wondering if its an xbox 360 problem or if i need a router just for the xbox

We have a brand new xbox 360 hooked to a sanyo hd flat screen TV that is 1 year old. We dont have an xbox HDMI cable. We have the cable that it came with hooked up to the tv. We are using a DLink WBR 2310 router.

We have 2 problems:

1. Gears of War is lagging bad.

2. Unable to connect to certain friends via xbox live. Can always connect to others. This has been going on for awhile, thats why we bought the new xbox but it hasnt helped. no firewalls on

i have windows media player 11.. anyways i was able to connect from my Vista laptop to my xbox then i tried adding new music to windows media player… now it just says no songs found. All my connections are correct ..router is good ..sharing is on for everything including windows media player. thank you
