Ok. so i got DSL and to all those wondering out there if DSL works well with XBL. YES! it does!!! the only problem i have with this is that when i hook up my modem to my router and then test my XBL connection, it tells me my IP Address fails. So i don’t even bother with the router and link my console directly to the DSL modem via ethernet cable. That works just fine…but i can’t talk with friends or join matches b/c it tells me my NAT is on strict. So i researched online and it says it might be my router and i may need to buy a router that is compatible with XBL. BUT HOW!?!?!? I’M NOT EVEN CONNECTED TO A ROUTER, I’M CONNECTED DIRECTLY!!!! HOW CAN I HAVE A NAT THAT IS STRICT?!?!?

Who’s a Computer Wiz out there?! i need help!!!

Answers would be greatly appreciated!!!

i have the new xbox 360 and i have it connected to the internet through a linksys model wrt54g router. when i go to try and connect with a friend it says that i have a closed nat and i must open it how do i do that?

I want to purchase a Xbox 360 and I need some REAL answers PLEASE. Does the Xbox 360 Elite have a lot of problems these days? I’ve heard something about how the RROD or Red Rings of Death (or what ever) aren’t happening as much anymore. Would it be a bad move to buy one of these? If not would it be smart to get a warranty with it? 10 points for best answer. Thanks in advance. (BTW if anyone uses WiFi on their 360, does the 360 router work really good and at long distances? THANKS! :D

Ok, I have an xbox 360 and want to set it up on xbox live. I do not want to purchase a wireless adapter. I have a modem in a different room to my xbox and i have been on xbox LIVE before by moving my xbox closer to the room on a different tv and using an ethernet cord to connect. This has worked fine. Someone then gave me a very long ethernet cord about 15m so i could reach it all the way to the room i have my xbox usually in. But when i plug in my cord, it doesn’t connect. I got to troubleshoot and it tells me that it cant read the ip adress or somthing and i have my setting to automatic. So i then changed it to manual and typed in my ip, then it stopped telling me about the problem with my ip, it then moved on to the next bit where it tests the connection from your network to the internet. I then get a message about my DNS server adress not being able to connect. so then i manually put my DNS adresses in but it still comes up with that when i do the connectivity test. But then there are other times like just then, i changed everything back to automatic (the way i have it when i connect using the other cord in the other room) and it succesfully connected all the way to the internet and there is now a problem between the internet and xbox LIVE. the message says: Your networkdoesnt have a sufficient MTU setting. It requires a minimum MTW setting of 1364. I tells me to go to my router webpage.

Keep in mind that none of those problems above occur when connected with the other cable. There surely cant be anything wrong with the ethernet cord because it works fine when plugged into my computer.

It is getting really frustrating! I don’t understand why it isn’t working perfectly.

Is there any way i can get this working? (leaving buying a wireless adapter or using my xbox in the other room as a last resort)

Hope you can help
edit: lol if it is as simple as getting a new cord ill do that but only if i’m 100% sure it is a problem with the cord
JC: yeah i have done that restarting process thing. Nothing different

and i think there is nothing wrong with my modem. because it works with the other cord.
I think ive concluded that i need a new ethernet cord, as there is no other reason as to why it doesn’t work. The ethernet cable i was using is old aswell.

i have a router in one room. I want to connect to xbox live in another room. what is the cheapest alternative to a wireless network adapter?
