I have had my Xbox 360 for about 3 years now and i just recently started seeing problems. I only just got Mass Effect I have have been playing for a bit. My Xbox will now start freezing while I’m playing. The screen will freeze, an annoying noise will sound for a few secs, then the screen will get lines going through it like static. I emailed Microsoft and they sent me some stupid automated message that didn’t work. I found out that if I unplug the Hard Drive for about an hour I can play for a couple hours before it does it again. So then I called them and they made it sound like nothing was wrong and that I should try a new A/V cable and what not.
About an hour after I called, it did it again and then I got the Red Right of Death (the three fatal error lights). My warranty is up and I cant get it fixed for free. I don’t want to spend the money to get it fixed and I don’t have enough to get a new Xbox. Has anyone else had this problem? And is it possible to fix it myself?
The 360 was released in Nov of 2005 so you are still covered by the 3 year red ring of death warranty because you have only owned at most two years and 3 months…

When calling 1-800-4my -xbox some of the operators have been telling RROD victims that they will only be covered by the red ring of death 3 year extended warranty if they pay $100 ….Tell them no way and microsoft did extend the red ring of death warranty to 3 years at NO charge …. This has happened to a few people recently when they have called so make sure you don’t back down and don’t pay the $100
If you have to ask to talk to a manager and if you absolutely have to tell them you are going to jion the class action suit against microsoft regarding the rrod.. The lawfirm Bonnet, Fairbourne, Freidman, and Balint Phone # 602-274-1100 It’s the lawfirm handling the class action suit filed in california against microsoft because of the red ring of death.
if you get the red ring you should still be able to get it fixed for free even if the warranty is up, because that is a defect in all the machines. my hubby’s was up and he called and they told him to send it to them to fix for free.
I think they extended the warranty for 10 years, I THINK.
