i have mercenaries 2 and i just got it i was really happy to because it was 15 dollars i get home put it in the xbox 360 play a little turn it off went to eat dinner turned it back on and now it says disk unreadable clean with soft cloth etc. what i want to know is it my xbox starting to crap out on me again or is it just the game?
Either you bought a scratched disc or the xbox 360 maimed it in the brief time you were playing.
Either way, it’s the disc that is no longer able to function. Your 360 is fine.
The 360 has been known to scratch discs (Mostly the earlier consoles). There’s a bigger chance of your disc being scratched if you have your console upright while it’s running and it’s almost guaranteed to scratch if you knock over an upright running console. There is also a chance that the console may scratch the disc while it’s lying down, but the chance of that is lower (But still existent).
Anyhow, the disc probably wasn’t in the greatest shape when you bought it if all you did was play it for a while.
You can try reviving it by applying toothpaste. What happens when a disc is scratched is that miniscule lacerations on the surface causes big skips when being read. When you apply toothpaste, you’re smoothing the scratches out by removing a thin layer.

Xbox 360′s are well known for their faultiness, i’m not saying its the console but it could well be.
How often does this problem happen?
I would say check the vents round your Xbox and use a can of keyboard cleaner compressed air to shift any dust etc from inside tray and so on. this helped when I had the problem
P.S. I have both PS3 and xbox, xbox is superioir on every way (gameplay, social, choice of games). The PS3 was a nightmare. I kept it for MGS4.. the ONLY saving grace for the console.
